Malaysia currently has several laws that prohibit gambling in the country. Such laws primarily focus on operating betting houses and getting caught inside such betting houses, aside from the Sharia Law. Among these laws are the following:
Malaysian gamblers should keep in mind that cops can arrest anyone without a warrant when found playing games like blackjack, baccarat, poker, and other games in public. Anyone caught gaming in public will be fined up to RM 5,000, be imprisoned for up to six months, or both. Warrantless arrests in public may be okay when people are caught gambling, but cops will need a warrant to raid suspected gambling dens.
Gamblers can gamble without worrying about both the Betting Act 1953 and Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 by betting at home. However, bettors should keep in mind that gambling at home is still gambling and playing with friends and family members in the same house effectively turn the house into a common gaming house.
