Combination Straight Bets
Sports betting sites allow bettors to combine straight bets in two ways, either through Across the Board or Each-Way.
Across the Board – Bettors choose a horse, and it MUST win, place, AND show to collect the winnings on all three bets. If the horse places second, the bettor only collects the winnings on place and show, and the bettor only collects on show when the horse finishes in third.
Each-Way – Bettors can play Win/Place, Win/Show, or Place/Show in a single ticket. The each-way bet costs the price of two straight bets. For example, if a bettor places a $10 each-way bet, they’ll essentially pay $20. This allows the bettor to win like in Across the Board, like when the bettor places a Place/Show each-way bet, the bettor wins half their bet when the horse finishes second and only half their bet if the horse finishes third.
